Feburary Love

Analysis of The Never Ending Story
“The empress is very sick and only a little boy can cure her. Anyone, Anyone!” beckoned Cairo.
As Atreyu is hesitating he manages to spit out, “I’ll do it! I will save the empress.”
No friends, and no mom, only him and his dad. Bastian, is a little boy picked on by three of his class mates. After running from them, Bastian sits in the school attic for the entire school day, making his grades going down. This is what happens in the movie, The Never Ending Story, by Wolfgang Peterson. This little boys’ life will be changed by a magical book that only he can control what happens in it.
To start off the whole movie, someone needs to open the book. That someone is a little boy. The bookstore owner, Mr. Carl Coreander, sets it up for the little boy to take it, and it works because the rest of the school day he will sit in the attic and read this magical book. Opening it up and starting to read he does not know that he can control the story. The book takes place in Fantasia, a fantasy world. Their dear empress is very ill and only one thing can stop the Nothing; a new name. Atreyu, the boy that Bastian is reading about, is still young so he will take the journey to save their dear empress. What he will have to bear is unbelievable. Going through swamps meeting, face to face with turtles a thousand times as big as him, he will try to stop the Nothing, a disease that is ending the world.
After leaving with a necklace to help him in the journey he is off. First stop is the swamp where he will see Morla the Aged One, a turtle that is huge and has lived for centuries. Here at the swamp the quick sand takes Atreyu’s horse’s life. This horse was his companion throughout the journey but he has now gone, but Atreyu is strong He will go on. The next thing that he will have to face is the deadly, terrible, The Nothing. Look at it this way. Pretend everything is blowing around you and all you have is a tree to hold on to and if you let go you fly away and eventually die; that is what Atreyu faced. His hands were stuck to the tree, his grip strong like super glue. Winds blowing and everything leaving his sight, and something hits him. Everything is black.
After a little bit he wakes up in a magical flying dogs arms, soft and pink drifting in the calm air they are away from the nothing, but there is more adventures in his near future. Falkor, the dog, drops him off at a cottage in the middle of nowhere. Inside the warm cottage there is Engywok and Urgl, an old couple yelling at each other. Atreyu will stay there to warm up and be bandaged up then after that he will go on the Southern Oracle. No one have ever passed through this gate. You need to be strong and see what is going to happen to other people that pass in front of you. Watching a knight pass in front of him, the knight is beamed and disappears. He died. Walking as slow with wobbly legs he enters through the gate then rolls and just misses the beams, and he is safe on the other side of the gate his journey will go on. Reaching the next and last gate once again makes it through, but the nothing is there and he is dyeing being warped around in a never ending swirl. Fantasia can only be saved by Bastian the earthling. Yelling and screaming Bastian believes.
Although he believes in Fantasia, it is gone piece by piece. After meeting with the Empress she gives him the power. He now will not live in a lonely world. He is their savior and he will find friends there any time in his life, plus he gets to keep, Falkor, the flying dragon. The dragon keeps the bullies away and takes him around places. This one book is very special to him. It changed Bastian’s life forever.
